Biography

Zira and her followers, the Outsiders, were loyal to her mate Scar during his reign. When Simba took back the throne, the hyenas also loyal to Scar turned on him and ate him. Zira blamed Simba for Scar's death and she and her followers were banished to the Outlands. Having little food, she longed for the day she could take revenge on Simba, and made the Outlanders train all day long for battle, never allowing her cubs to play. So she was very displeased when she saw Kovu playing with Simba's daughter, Kiara. Immediate;y both Zira and Simba came out. Zira saw this as an opportunity to attack Simba, but backed down when Simba's pride came to aid him. After a heated conversation Zira left with Kovu.

Zira returned to the Pridelands to scold Kovu and Nuka, who was supposed to be watching him. Kovu unintentionally gave her a plan on conquering the Pridelands. Her plan was to use Kovu to get close to Kiara and then Simba and assassinate him, and then the Outlanders would attack and take over the Pridelands. She continued training the Outlanders and Kovu nearly became stone cold, just as Zira wanted.

The plan was executed. Vitani and Nuka set fire to the Pridelands and Kiara passed out from the lack of air. Kovu was sent to rescue her, and he did, but Simba was wary of his presence, but nonetheless allowed him to join his pride. The plan was in motion. Unfortunately for Zira, her plan had one flaw: Kovu was starting to fall in love with Kiara, and was starting to actually feel part of Simba's pride. Vitani reported this, and Zira's response was to ambush Simba and Kovu with her pride and Simba was severely injured, but used the last of his strength to crawl up a dam. Nuka tried to follow, but ended up getting killed by falling logs. Blaming Kovu for Nuka's death, Zira hit him in the face, giving him a scar just like Scar's. Kovu stood up for his mother before leaving the Outlanders, with Zira letting him go. She then decided that Nuka's death was the last straw and she and the Outlanders left the Outlands into the Pridelands with the intention of attacking.

When word got out of this, Simba's pride went out to fight back. Simba gave Zira one last warning to leave, but Zira declared she was at home and both pride's faught each other. The Outlanders were more brutal in the fight and were clearly winning. Zira then went after Simba and both pride's stopped fighting to watch the duel. Before they could fight, both Kovu and Kiara jumped between their parents. Both told them to move, but they stood their ground. Kiara convinced her father to let go of his hate of the Outlanders, but Zira was unmoved and ordered Vitani to attack. When she refused, Zira threatened to kill her. The other Outlanders, shocked at Zira's cruelty, sided with Simba. Zira wasn't going to give up and tried to attack Simba, but was tackled by Kiara and both fell off a cliff. Zira was left danling from the edge of the cliff and Kiara offered her help. Zira refused and fell from the cliff into the river, where she drowned.
