Warning: Spoilers may follow.

Supreme Leader Snoke, the Supreme Leader, or simply just Snoke, is the principal villain in the sequel trilogy of Star Wars, serving as the background tertiary antagonist in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, and could appear in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. He is Kylo Ren's master and the spiritual leader of the First Order, aka the Galactic Empire, plotting with General Hux to use Kylo Ren as a weapon.

He is portrayed by Andy Serkis, who also voiced Gollum in the Middle-earth saga.

Information

He is the supreme leader of the First Order, which rose from the ashes of the Galactic Empire. He is an ally of General HuxKylo Ren's master and the supreme master of darkness.

History

Background

Snoke is a male individual who served as Kylo Ren's master approximately thirty years after the Battle of Endor. In the movie, Snoke even said that he "watched the rise and fall of the Galactic Empire." This would mean that he was alive before the Battle of Endor and possibly even the prequel trilogy.

Speech about BB-8

Supreme Leader Snoke first appears in the hologram room, speaking to Kylo Ren and General Hux. Snoke says that the droid (BB-8) will be delivered to the Resistance, which would lead them to the last Jedi (Luke Skywalker). General Hux speaks to Snoke, and says that he is fully responsible for the task that he is awaiting, therefore not letting Kylo help him, but Snoke yells at him, and says that the First Order's strategy has now changed. Hux tells him that Starkiller Base is ready for use, and convinces Snoke to destroy the New Republic, which supports the Resistance. Hux then makes an excuse to Snoke that without the New Republic, the Resistance will become vulnerable, and the First Order would destroy the Resistance before they reach Skywalker. Snoke then tells Hux to leave, and oversee the preparations of the Starkiller. Hux agrees to the task, and leaves the hologram room.

Snoke then speaks to Kylo Ren. He tells him that there was an awakening, and then asks him if he felt it. Kylo responds that he did. Snoke tells him that there's something more, that BB-8 is aboard the Millenium Falcon, which is now owned by Han Solo. Kylo tells Snoke that Han means nothing to him. Snoke then responds that even Kylo never faced such a task. Kylo then says that by the grace of his training, he will not be resistant. Snoke tells him that they will see, twice before his hologram disappears.

Trivia

  • So far, Snoke is the most mysterious character in the Star Wars universe.
  • Many Star Wars fans have theorized that Supreme Leader Snoke is, indeed, Darth Plagueis, Emperor Palpatine's master. This is probably the most popular theory on who Snoke really is. However, there are 3 major flaws in this theory:
    • Andy Serkis, Snoke's actor, said that Snoke is a humanoid, and Plagueis is a Muun. Humanoids and Muuns are two separate species of aliens.
    • Palpatine taught Anakin that his master, Plagueis, had the ability to create life and even save others from death. This was just a lie, so since Plagueis could not create life or save others from dying, there's no way Plagueis could have saved himself from death, either.
    • Andy Serkis has recently stated that Snoke is "just Snoke."
    • Due to these major flaws, this theory was proven false, and there's no way Snoke could be Plagueis. Not a chance.
    • Many people also say that Snoke is the following:
  • Though being the tertiary antagonist and playing a minor role, he is the secondary villain of The Force Awakens, due to being more evil than Kylo Ren. However, Kylo Ren was more of an antagonist than Snoke, due to carrying out each order he was given.
  • He is going to return, now as the secondary antagonist, in Star Wars: Episode VIII. Other returning villains will be General Hux, Kylo Ren, and Captain Phasma.
