|“||I doubt I need an introduction, but just in case, I am the mighty Frieza, and yes, all the horrible stories you've heard are true.||„|
Frieza is a major villain of the Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Z Kai (along with Vegeta, Cell and Majin Buu). He is known as lord of the well known galaxy. At the time of his introduction, he is revered as the most powerful being in the entire universe. No one dares to cross his path or disobey him. Frieza is the son of King Cold and younger brother of Cooler.
Dragon Ball ZEdit
Frieza was the ruler of the Galactic Frieza Army, an organization that enslaved and wiped out countless alien species to re-sell them. Prior to the start of the series, Frieza destroyed Planet Vegeta out of fear of a Saiyan uprising, as well as the legend of a Super Saiyan that rivaled Frieza in power. Frieza spared Vegeta, Nappa and Raditz, believing that they could prove useful to him. However, unknown to Frieza, Raditz's infant brother Goku was sent to Earth to escape the genocide of the Saiyans.
Many years later, after Vegeta's defeat on Earth, Frieza invaded Planet Namek to find the seven Namekian Dragon Balls to wish for immortality. Upon arrival, Frieza began to wipe out the Namekians as he collected the Dragon Balls, leaving few remaining. His attempts to find all seven Dragon Balls were hampered by Goku's son Gohan, Krillin and Vegeta, who wanted the Dragon Balls for himself. Frieza eventually called in the Ginyu Force, and manages to find all seven Dragon Balls. However, his inability to speak Namekian forces him to seek out Grand Elder Guru. Frieza then battled the Namekian warrior Nail, only to discover that Nail was a distraction to allow the Earthlings to activate the Dragon Balls with help from the Namekian child Dende.
With his army destroyed, Frieza intercepts the Earthlings just as Guru dies, rendering the Dragon Balls useless. Frieza, enraged at his chance for immortality being destroyed, vowed to kill Vegeta and the others. He engaged in a fierce battle with them, during which Piccolo, who had been revived by the Dragon Balls and fused with Nail, arrived to battle him. Frieza underwent several transformations, finally unveiling his final form. In this form, he easily defeated Vegeta and beat him to near death by the time a healed Goku arrived at the scene. Despite Goku's arrival, Frieza killed Vegeta.Frieza engaged Goku in battle, eventually powering up and gaining the upper hand. Goku, in desperation, used the Spirit Bomb against Frieza, nearly killing him. However, Frieza survived this. Frieza promptly wounded Piccolo and murdered Krillin, causing an enraged Goku to assume his Super Saiyan form for the first time, allowing him to gain the upper hand against Frieza. Realizing he was outmatched, Frieza damaged the core of Namek, which would cause it to explode. Frieza then powered up to 100% of his maximum strength to defeat Goku. With Goku temporarily defeated, Gohan intervened and battled Frieza. However, Goku returned and continued his battle against Frieza, with their destructive brawl ending when Frieza was severed in two by his own attack.
On the verge of death, Frieza pleaded for mercy, and Goku granted Frieza some of his energy to allow him to survive. Goku then flew off to find a spaceship to flee the doomed planet. However, Frieza, unwilling to admit defeat, fired a blast of energy at Goku, forcing him to fire his own energy blast at Frieza, seemingly killing him. Namek exploded soon afterwards. However, Frieza survived the planet's destruction, albeit heavily injured. Floating through space and on the verge of death, Frieza was found by his father, King Cold, who mechanically modified Frieza's body. Now a cyborg, Frieza demanded that King Cold send him to Earth so that he could take revenge on Goku. Arriving on Earth, Frieza awaited Goku's arrival, but was instead met with Future Trunks, Vegeta's son. Initially disregarding the Saiyan, Frieza was taken off-guard when Trunks revealed himself to be a Super Saiyan. Panicking, Frieza immediately attempted to kill the Super Saiyan, but proved no match for Trunks. He was promptly killed by Trunks, along with King Cold.
Resurrection 'F'EditFollowing Frieza's death, his spirit was imprisoned in Earth's Hell. Stripped of his powers, Frieza was left to be tormented by the angels of Hell as punishment for his actions in life. Years later, Frieza was resurrected by two of his men, Sorbet and Tagoma, using Earth's Dragon Balls. After his body is regenerated in a medical machine, Frieza reverts to his first form. Knowing that he would need time before his powers fully returned to him, Frieza announced that he would wait until back to full power before exacting his vengeance against Goku. When Tagoma suggested that Frieza focus on ruling the rest of the universe, Frieza furiously killed him. Upon being informed by Sorbet that Goku had defeated Majin Buu, one of the few warriors Frieza had been warned never to challenge, Frieza realized that Goku was stronger now. Coming to the conclusion that Goku was more powerful than he was, Frieza resolved to train for four months and unlock a powerful level that surpassed Goku's own.
For four months, Frieza trained in earnest in order to unlock his true potential, allowing him to become more powerful than ever, as well as master his final form. After his training is over, Frieza and his army invades Earth to find and challenge Goku to battle. Upon arriving, Frieza destroys North City and its inhabitants. He then encounters the Z Fighters, who have arrived to fight him. Uninterested in fighting, Frieza orders his army to dispose of them, but the Z Fighters overpower them. Disappointed, Frieza wipes out his entire army except for Sorbet before flying down to confront the Z Fighters, who realize that they are hopelessly outmatched. However, Goku and Vegeta arrive, along with Beerus and Whis. Frieza challenges Goku to battle, and transforms into his final form. The two battle, with Goku gaining the upper hand. Eventually, both realize that the other is holding back. They decide to both unveil their more powerful transformations; Goku transforms into Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan, and Frieza unveils his new evolution: Golden Frieza, a form he had attained during his training. With his new boost in power, Golden Frieza outmatches Goku in raw power, and starts to overwhelm the Super Saiyan. During the battle, Frieza is distracted when he notices Beerus, but is relieved when the God of Destruction claims he will not intervene with his battle.
Goku then points out to Frieza that his power level is decreasing, and Goku and Vegeta deduce that, in Frieza's haste for revenge, he hadn't mastered his Golden form. Realizing this, Frieza goes all-out against Goku, but with his power level decreasing, he is soon defeated. Goku offers to spare his defeated foe, and tells him to leave Earth, but Frieza signals for Sorbet to shoot Goku while he is distracted, injuring him and causing him to return to Base form. Frieza starts to torture a weakened Goku, but halts on killing him when he notices Vegeta. Seeking to regain Vegeta's loyalty, Frieza offers Vegeta the opportunity to kill Goku himself and prove himself worthy of serving Frieza.Vegeta, however, rejects Frieza's offer and unveils his Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan form, horrifying Frieza. Vegeta kills Sorbet and battles Frieza, easily defeating the weakened tyrant. Defeated, Frieza reverts back to his true form, and Vegeta prepares to kill him. Desperate, Frieza blows up Earth, killing Vegeta, with only the Z Fighters, Bulma, Beerus and Whis surviving. Beerus and Whis explain to the Z Fighters that Frieza is most likely alive and is floating through space, plotting his next move. However, Whis managed to turn back time by three minutes, undoing Earth's destruction. This allowed Goku to ambush Frieza and obliterate him with a Kamehameha.
Frieza was promtply returned to Earth's Hell, where he was strapped to a cocoon again and met with Hell's angels, much to his chagrin.
Frieza was a heartless individual whose ruthlessness was masked by a polite exterior. At his core, Frieza was a being who relished power and destruction, having no qualms about killing anyone who displeased him. Having been born with a high power level left Frieza with a strong sense of overconfidence, believing himself to be the most powerful being in the universe. Beneath his calm composure, however, Frieza had an intense temper and had little tolerance for failure.
Frieza was Vegeta's father figure for most of his life, seeing potential use in the prince. Despite having taken the young prince under his wing, Frieza developed no true care for him. When Vegeta ultimately turned on him, Frieza had no qualms with brutally torturing and then killing him. Though he claimed to have given Vegeta special treatment, Frieza ultimately cares for no one but himself.
Powers and abilitiesEdit
Frieza was revered galaxy-wide as the most powerful being in the universe. Though he was revealed to be surpassed in sheer power by other extraterrestrial beings, Frieza was still a formidable opponent, with few beings able to overpower him. Frieza, in his first form, could effortlessly destroy an entire planet and wipe out millions of lives. His power only increases as he undergoes transformations into more powerful forms.
In his true form, Frieza had a power level that far surpassed that of any fighter previously seen. Using half of his full power, Frieza vastly overpowered Goku in his base form. It was when Goku achieved Super Saiyan Form that he was able to defeat Frieza at 50% of his maximum power. At 100% of his maxumum, Frieza's power level was at 120 million. While not as powerful as Super Saiyan Goku at maximum power, Frieza was still briefly able to gain the upper hand in their battle.
- Frieza is widely considered to be the main antagonist of the Dragon Ball franchise due to his role in setting the story in motion, as well as being the franchise's most recurring villain.
- According to Akira Toriyama, Frieza's character was inspired by real-estate speculators.
- The battle between Frieza and Goku holds the record for the longest battle sequence in the series.
