The Joker is the main antagonist of the Batman franchise. He is Batman's arch-nemesis.
Comics
Television
Batman
In the Joker's first appearance besides the comics, he was played by Cesar Romero in the Adam West 1960's television series, Batman. He was played by Cesar Romero, and he was one Batman's arch-enemies. The Joker was a former hypnotist that turned to a life of crime. The Joker's weapons were usually harmless, ranging from sneezing powder to squirting flowers to joy buzzers. The Joker was fairly harmless, and his primary goal was to unmask Batman and Robin. He has come close to defeating them multiple times, but they have managed to outwit him each time. The Joker uses strategic plans to escape from prison. His crimes, acording to Batman in the episode "the Jokes on Catwoman", include robbery, attempted murder, assault, battery, mayhem, and overtime parking.
Film
Batman: The Movie
In the film adaption of the Adam West television series, The Joker is portrayed by Cesar Romero like in the television series. He has teamed up with The Riddler, The Penguin, and Catwoman and has formed the United Underworld, and they plan world domination, but not before they dispose of Batman and Robin so they don't interfere with their plans. The criminals kidnap inventor Commodore Schmidlapp to use his inventions, but he is unaware that he has been kidnapped. The Joker and the other members of the United Underworld have taken the dehydrator, an invention that can turn humans to dust. Their plan is to dehydrate and kidnap the United World Organization Security Council.
The United Underworld try to kill the Dynamic Duo by firing torpedoes at them when they are trapped in the Batboat, but they escape and a torpedoe hits a porpoise. After the attempted murder, Catwoman disguises herself as Miss Kitka and becomes Bruce Wayne's love interest to lure him into a trap. The Penguin schemes his way into the Batcave with the dehydrated minions, but they are rehydrated by contaminated water. Finally, the Security Council is captured, but Batman and Robin find the United Underworld and a fight ensues. Robin defeats the Joker by knocking him into the water, and they are captured. Despite winning, Batman is heartbroken to discover that Miss Kitka is Catwoman.
Gotham (2015)
A younger incarnation of the Joker goes by the name of Jerome Valeska and he is killed by Theo Galavan but is later revived by Hugo Strange.

OnStar commercials and Birds of Prey
During the OnStar "Batman" ad campaign, the Joker appears in one commercial, played by Curtis Armstrong. Roger Stoneburner makes a cameo appearance as the character in an episode of Birds of Prey. Mark Hamill, who voiced the Joker in various animated shows throughout the 1990s, provides the Joker's voice in the scene, and he is the only one of the two actors to be credited.

- The Joker appeared as a recurring villain in the 1968-1969 Filmation series The Adventures of Batman voiced by Larry Storch.
- Storch reprises his role for two crossover episodes of the 1972 series The New Scooby-Doo Movies. In both episodes, he teams up with The Penguin and runs afoul of Batman, Robin, and the Mystery Inc. gang.
- He also appears in five episodes of Filmation's 1977 series The New Adventures of Batman voiced by Lennie Weinrib.
- The Joker makes an appearance in The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians episode "The Wild Cards" voiced byFrank Welker. This episode features a version of the Royal Flush Gang. The leader of the group Ace turns out to be a disguised Joker assisting in Darkseid's latest plot. Batman deduced the Joker's masquerade upon noticing that the Joker's house of cards fortress was short the Joker's namesake card.

The Joker appears in several animated shows in the DC animated universe, voiced by Mark Hamill:
- Joker is the series' most recurring villain in Batman: The Animated Series. He first appearing in the second episode "Christmas with the Joker" where he escapes Arkham before Christmas. In the feature film spin-off Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, it is revealed that he was once a hitman for mobster Salvatore Valestra. A later episode reveals that he went on to start his own gang with the first target being the Ace Chemicals plant, where Batman foils the robbery and knocks him into a vat of acid. Several episodes mention that his real name is Jack Napier (a reference to the 1989 film). It most notably appears on his police file in the episode "Joker's Wild". However, later episodes suggest that this may only be an alias. The series is notable for introducing Harley Quinn, Joker's sidekick who became one of the few original characters from the show to successfully cross over to the comics.
- Joker also appears in the follow-up series The New Batman Adventures. He is also featured prominently as one of the main villains in the one-hour crossover with Superman: The Animated Series when he travels to Metropolis and makes a deal with Lex Luthor to kill Superman in exchange for one billion dollars. With Superman no match for Joker's cunning and Batman outclassed by Luthor's superior technology, Batman and Superman join forces to take Joker and Luthor down. Joker is apparently killed when he is wrecking Metropolis in is destroyed, although his body is not found.
- Joker also appeared in the Static Shock episode "The Big Leagues". He comes to Dakota and recruits Hot-Streak, Kangor, Shiv and Talon into starting a crime spree but are foiled by Static.
- Joker appears in Justice League. In the episode "Injustice for All", he forces his way into Lex Luthor's Injustice Gang. In the episode "A Better World", an alternate Joker has been lobotomized by Superman of the Justice Lords and is now the superintendent of Arkham. In his most prominent episode "Wild Cards", he plants a multitude of bombs across Las Vegasand televises the attempts to find and disarm them in a mockery of reality television. To add drama to the broadcast, he pits the Justice League against five superpowered teens. The bombs turn out to be a ruse to attract viewership so thepsychic Ace can render everyone watching the broadcast insane. The plan backfires when, during a fight with Batman, Ace turns her powers on Joker, rendering him temporarily catatonic.
- Joker is featured in the DCAU film Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. He mysteriously returns to Gotham after having been presumed dead for 35 years. A flashback revealed that Joker had kidnapped and tortured Tim Drake, turning Robin into an insane, miniature version called Joker Junior (voiced by Andrea Romano). While under Joker's power, Robin had also revealed Batman's secret identity. After Joker ordered Joker Junior to kill Batman, Joker Junior ultimately killed Joker himself. In the unedited version, Tim shoots him with the deadly "Bang" flag gun. In the edited version, Drake pushes Joker into a room with hanging electrical wires and tanks of water then Joker crashes into one and the wires slip down and then runs forward to get Drake but instead slips and turns on the wires, electrocuting himself. As a twist, Joker's future incarnation is actually none other than his final victim due to Joker having implanted a microchip into Tim's brain which contained his DNA, memories, and personality, transforming Drake into a genetic duplicate of himself with his own mind in control. The new Batman (Terry McGinnis) ultimately destroys the chip, saving Joker's host and destroying Joker once and for all (in the DCAU continuity).
- Although Joker never directly appears in Justice League Unlimited, the episode "Fearful Symmetry" reveals that the five superpowered teens he used were originally from a Cadmus building and the first season finale "Epilogue" revealed that Joker's genetic technology was originally Cadmus property as well.
The Batman

A different interpretation of the Joker appears in the animated series The Batman, voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson in English and Naoki Tatsuta in Japanese. This incarnation sports a purple and yellow straitjacket, fingerless gloves, bare feet, wild green hair, and red eyes. The Joker also moves and fights with a Monkey Kung Fu-like style using his feet as dexterously as his hands, and often hangs from the walls and ceilings (as the series progresses, these abilities do not appear as much). His appearance becomes somewhat refined later in the series, where he adopts the more traditional garb of a purple suit andspats, but he still has wild hair and wears no shoes, save one episode. In "Strange Mind", Batman and Hugo Strange travel into the Joker's mind and find the Joker's former self, a low-level office worker who dreams of "making people laugh". In "Two of a Kind", Joker says the same thing to Harley when she attempts therapy.
In the film The Batman vs. Dracula, which takes place in the universe of The Batman, the Joker escapes from Arkham, having learned of the location of buried treasure, and runs into the Penguin, whom he disposes of with electric joy buzzers, only to run into Batman. Towards the end of the ensuing battle, the Joker plummets into the river where he is electrocuted and apparently killed by his own buzzers. However, he is later revealed to have survived, having been accidentally rescued by a fisherman. He heads towards Gotham Cemetery, where the treasure is hidden, and encounters the Penguin again, unaware he has now been made a servant of Count Dracula. Despite Penguin's warnings, Joker ventures into his master's crypt, running into the count himself. His blood promptly drained, the Joker turns into a vampire. Vampire Joker robs a blood bank to sustain himself; after chugging several vials he comments "A bold finish of wild cherries with a hint of oak." He encounters the Batman yet again and the two fight. Joker is captured in the end and taken to the Batcave, where Batman experiments on ways to treat his undead state and tries to make him reveal Dracula's hiding place. Joker is unable to give him any information, for he is under Dracula's control. Batman eventually develops an antidote and cures Joker, who seems to have lost his memory of being a vampire. Nonetheless, Joker inadvertently reveals the location of Dracula's crypt and is sent back to Arkham.
Krypto the Superdog
In the TV show Krypto the Superdog, the Joker's trained pet hyenas, Bud and Lou, are villains and enemies of Ace the Bat-Hound and Krypto the Superdog. The Joker himself does not appear in the show, but is mentioned on various occasions. The hyenas are named after Bud Abbott and Lou Costello.
Batman: The Brave and the Bold
The Joker appears (in several different forms) in Batman: The Brave and the Bold, voiced by Jeff Bennett (most incarnations) and Corey Burton (in "Joker: The Vile and the Villainous!").
The first incarnation that appears is a heroic alternative reality version called the Red Hood (voiced by Bennett) which appears in the episode "Deep Cover for Batman!".[15] He is shown to be an extremely capable fighter, able to hold his own against multiple members of the Injustice Syndicate. In addition, he wields projectile weapons shaped like spades (a reference to Joker's playing card motif). Like Joker, Red Hood was disfigured after falling into a chemical vat at the Ace Chemical Plant, however, was already a superhero and was actively dropped in by Owlman. His sanity is said to have been "Bent, but not broken.".
The second incarnation that appears is Joker himself (also voiced by Bennett). His appearance and personality is very similar to the Silver Age version, as drawn by Dick Sprang.[16] Making his debut in the episode "Game Over for Owlman!". Now a wanted fugitive, Batman has no option but to team up with Joker to stop Owlman's crime spree especially when Owlman was upstaging Joker. During that time, Joker briefly becomes a hero but ultimately goes back to his evil roots because being a good guy was "just not him". Joker makes an appearance in the episode "Legends of the Dark Mite!" along with the Penguin and other Batman villains.
Joker appears in the teaser to the episode "Hail the Tornado Tyrant!" when he's being tailed by Batman and Green Arrow during a series of robberies. He is captured after his car's many means of propulsion are destroyed by the combined efforts of the heroes. Joker also appears in the episode "Death Race to Oblivion!" as one of Mongul's racers. He creates tough obstacles for Batman and the others until after he is out of the race. He occasionally provides a play-by-play of the race while doing so, breaking the Fourth Wall. He is transported to a cell with the other losing villains and later put in a green cell created by Guy Gardner's power ring. Joker appears again among other villains in a bidding for a supersonic weapon held by arms dealer Joe Chill in the episode "Chill of the Night!" He later appears in "Emperor Joker!" along with his love Harley Quinn.
The episode "The Knights of Tomorrow!" shows a Future with a third version of the character. After the original Joker discovers he has six months to live, he creates a 'son' aka Joker Jr. (also voiced by Bennett) to destroy Batman's image. The new Joker wrecks the Batman Museum, killing Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle in the process. The second Batman (Dick Grayson) goes after him but is captured and is told Joker's origin, and shown a plan to spray Gotham with Joker gas from a Batman statue. However, the new Robin (Damian Wayne) frees Batman. Joker is then defeated when the head of the Batman Statue is hurled of by an explosion then sprays him with laughing gas.
In the Scooby-Doo crossover created by Bat-Mite, a fourth incarnation (voiced by Burton) appears. In typical Joker style, he takes over the episode "Joker: The Vile and the Villainous!". Even the theme song is a 'Jokerized' version, with several of his fellow criminals shown. The episode is shown from his point of view as he unites with the Weeper to try and foil Batman's plan to officially root out crime, creating a reversal of the protagonist/antagonist roles.
Joker reappears in the episode "Night of the Batmen!", where he plans to make everyone on Earth insane just like him. He also captures Green Arrow, Plastic Man, Aquaman and Captain Marvel: all were substituting due to Batman being critically injured. Fortunately, Batman makes a special exosuit to free the others and foil Joker. In one last attempt to kill the Dark Knight, Joker tries to electrocute his nemesis with his Joy-Buzzer, but Batman anticipated this and counterattacks by shocking Joker himself. He also appears in both the opening and the main plot of the episode "Triumvirate of Terror". In the opening, he was seen playing baseball with the Legion of Doom against the Justice League International. In the main plot, Joker tries to kill Batman and Vicki Vale by launching a giant exploding pie onto them. But, as a predictable result, Batman escaped, freed Vicki, and dodged the pie before it hit. However, Joker managed to make his escape. He later met up withLex Luthor and Cheetah, both who were having trouble dealing with their enemies Superman and Wonder Woman, respectively. They agree to switch enemies to destroy them. As such, Joker went after Wonder Woman. However, before he could kill her with a giant hammer, Luthor teleported the heroes and villains to their hideout, where they were going to kill them all on a worldwide broadcast. Fortunately, just as the villains switched heroes to fight, the heroes did the same, triple-teaming on them to defeat them.
Joker appears in the opening for the episode "Powerless", where he has assembled a group called the Jokers of All Nations to fight the Batmen of All Nations. This team is made up of an Inuit, a hockey player, a Scotsman, a Cossak, and asumo wrestler. Joker also appears in the opening for the episode "Crisis: 22,300 Miles Above Earth" where he was hosting acelebrity roast to literally roast Batman. He has also invited Clock King, Gorilla Grodd, Penguin, Two-Face, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, Kite Man, Gentleman Ghost, Black Manta, Riddler and Solomon Grundy to the roast. Joker has even forced Jeff Ross to roast Batman, but it turns out that Ross was a distraction for Batman to escape the roasting stick. When Joker tried to escape, Jeff got in his way and knocked him out. His final appearance was in the finale "Mitefall" as one of the guests at the series cancellation party set up by Ambush Bug. He was mainly seen alongside Harley.
Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths
A parallel earth, heroic version of the Joker called the Jester appears in Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths voiced byJames Patrick Stuart. He is a longtime ally of that Earth's Lex Luthor and a former member of their world's Justice League/Justice Underground. He sacrifices his life taking out two supervillains in the process at the beginning of the film so that Luthor can escape and get help for their Earth which has been besieged by the villainous Crime Syndicate of America. Back at his lair, he is shown to have a monkey called Harley whom Lex sadly informs that "the Jester is never coming back".
DC Super Friends
"The Joker's Playhouse" (2010) was an original video animation produced for Fisher-Price Imaginext's DC Super Friendsand included as a DVD insert for the toyline. The episode features Joker taking over the Hall of Justice and the Super Friends running the gamut to reclaim it. The Joker is voiced by John Kassir.
Batman: Under the Red Hood
The Joker appears in the animated original movie Batman: Under the Red Hood, voiced by John DiMaggio. He was once the original Red Hood. Hired by Ra's al Ghul to distract Batman from the terrorist's plan to destroy the world economy, Joker lures the Dynamic Duo to Sarajevo, Bosnia, where he beats Jason Todd with a crowbar and leaves Robin to be killed by a bomb. Several years later, Batman and Nightwing goes to Joker for information in Arkham Asylum about the new Red Hood. Joker merely taunts Batman about Robin's death and then reveals that there is no connection. After Red Hood's murderous attacks, Black Mask hires Joker to kill Red Hood. However, Joker kidnaps Red Hood's eight underbosses and Black Mask then holds them hostage inside an oil tanker. With Red Hood's actions designed to lure Joker away from Arkham's safety to could kill him, Red Hood beats, kidnaps and brings Joker to Crime Alley. Batman is then forced to either kill Jason or Joker, but Batman refuses to do either and disarms Todd. Joker prevents Batman from stopping Jason's bomb saying "I'm the only one who's going to get what he wants tonight". The bomb goes off but Batman and Joker survive while Todd disappears. Joker is then sent back to Arkham.
Young Justice
The Joker appears in the Young Justice episode "Revelations", voiced by Brent Spiner. He was part of the Injustice League, and seen controlling Poison Ivy's plants all over the world.[17] As in the comics, it was he who discovered the Justice League's mountain hideout. He is apparently immune to telepathy, as shown in issue #2 of the tie-in comic series whenMartian Manhunter tried to enter his mind, but doubled over in pain with Joker replying "Scary in there, isn't it?". He uses switchblades as weapons, similar the ones of Heath Ledger's portrayal. He also has a fourth-wall awareness, shown when he looks at the camera and says "Admit it: you can't turn away".
The Dark Knight Returns
Michael Emerson voices The Joker in the two-part adaption of The Dark Knight Returns.[18] In the first part, he is in a catatonic state, but is brought out of it by hearing of Batman's return, where he stands up and says "Batman.... Darling". In the second part, Joker goes on a few more acts of murderous rampage, killing everyone in a talk show interview with Joker toxin, and handing out poisoned cotton candy to children. Batman confronts him and stabs him in the eye with a Batarang, but the Clown Prince of Crime escapes through the Tunnel of Love, gunning down civilians on the way. Batman becomes enraged and, after a struggle, breaks Joker's neck, paralyzing him. Joker, however, proclaims that that Batman will be hunted as a murderer for his death, meaning that he has won. He then breaks his own neck, killing himself.
Lego Batman: The Movie - DC Super Heroes Unite
The Joker appears as the main antagonist alongside Lex Luthor in Lego Batman: The Movie - DC Super Heroes Unite, an adaptation of the video game of the same name, with Christopher Corey Smith reprising his role.
Son of Batman
Joker makes a cameo appearance in Son of Batman, laughing in his Arkham Asylum cell. His laugh is provided by Dee Bradley Baker.
Batman: Assault on Arkham
The Joker appears as the main antagonist in Batman: Assault on Arkham, a film set in the Batman: Arkham video game series, with Troy Baker reprising his role from Batman: Arkham Origins. At the beginning of the film, Amanda Waller states that Joker has hidden a bomb somewhere in Gotham, which Batman is trying find. Joker is first seen taunting Harley Quinn during her mission at Arkham Asylum with the Suicide Squad. He angers Harley to the point where she fires a hail of bullets in his prison cell, attempting to kill him after he threw her out of a moving car a few months ago. Joker then found a way to escape from his cell and set off to get his clothes and the bomb, which he hid in Harley's mallet. After Joker and Harley rekindled their "relationship", they escaped Arkham with the mallet. They secretly boarded the helicopter Deadshot stole. After a short duel on the copter, it crashed into a building. While Batman took down Harley and tried to disarm the bomb, Joker and Deadshot fought a few levels above. For most of the fight, Joker seemed to be winning, but eventually Deadshot gained the upper hand despite suffering from severe injuries. As Deadshot trapped Joker in the falling helicopter, the Clown Prince of Crime merely laughed as the helicopter was falling to the streets below. Waller later revealed that Joker's body was never found.
Robot Chicken
- In "The Robot Chicken DC Comics Special", Joker doesn't have a speaking role but laughs when he sprays urine in Batman's face through the flower on his jacket.
- In "The Robot Chicken DC Comics Special II: Villains in Paradise", Joker can be seen at the table in The Legion of Doom and has a few lines when he gets to the beach. Joker is attacked by a starfish and Harley Quinn smacks him in the face with her mallet and he lands in Batman's arms. They do a joke about getting variant editions of "Death of Joker". After the credits, they show a comic about "The Joker's Back".
Lego Batman: Be-Leagured

Batman: Dark Tomorrow
The Joker is a villain in Batman: Dark Tomorrow, voiced by Allen Enlow. He kidnaps Commissioner Gordon and leaves a deck of cards with no jokers in it, in Gordon's office for Batman to find. This leads Batman to fight through a rampage atArkham Asylum to find him. Joker is the last boss in Arkham but isn't actually fought in the game. He sends a number of lunatics down to fight you instead.
Batman: Vengeance
Based on The New Batman Adventures, and starring its voice cast, including Mark Hamill as the Joker, he and Harley Quinn mastermind a plan to destroy Gotham City once and for all using an explosive, flammable compound consisting of Joker Toxin and a new substance called Promethium.
Lego Batman: The Videogame
The Joker is a playable character in Lego Batman: The Videogame, with his vocal effects provided by Steven Blum.[20] where he leads a group of villains in a mission to spread Joker toxin to all of Gotham City. He has dual Uzis, and can kill enemies using a lethal joybuzzer, which can also be used to power generators. He has a helicopter with a grappling hook. He leads a group of villains consisting of himself, Harley Quinn, Mad Hatter, Scarecrow and Killer Moth. His plan is to fill Gothamcathedral with his laughing gas and then blow the cathedral up to spread the gas all over Gotham. An unlockable alternate version of the character has the tropical costume worn during Batman: The Killing Joke.
Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe
The Joker is also a playable character in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, voiced by Richard Epcar.[21] Joker sports an array of magically endowed trick (but often lethal) weapons and fatalities and (storywise) he is also reasonably stronger due to the rage caused by the merging universes. Once he realizes that, he breaks from the mission Lex Luthor gave him and goes after Batman. He also easily defeats Sonya Blade and interrupts a fight between Deathstroke and Kano so he can kill the latter himself. Later in the story, Joker turns on Deathstroke just for the fun of it and defeats him as well. As the two worlds separate, Joker discovers that he has retained his new powers and manages to take over Gotham, crowning himself "Mayor Joker". Under his rule, the city quickly falls into chaos. Joker now holds tournaments where contests fight to the death for his amusement, with the winner fighting Joker.
Batman: Arkham
The Joker appears in the Batman: Arkham video game series:
Mark Hamill reprises his role of the Joker for the 2009 video game Batman: Arkham Asylum as the main antagonist. In the game, he takes over Arkham Asylum in an elaborate trap set for Batman, and combine Titan (a more potent version of Bane's Venom) with his army of thugs to create "an army of a thousand Banes". After foiling the other villains' agendas, Batman confronts a Titan-enhanced Joker atop Arkham. In the game's PlayStation 3 version, players are able to actually play the Challenge Maps as Joker with thugs replaced by Arkham guards.[22][23]
Mark Hamill voices the Joker for a final time as one of the two main antagonists in the 2011 sequel Batman: Arkham City. In the game, Joker is locked up in the new city sized prison "Arkham City" operated by Hugo Strange and is involved in a turf war against Penguin and Two-Face. It is revealed that he is slowly dying as a result of his exposure to the Titan formula. After finding Joker, Batman is captured and injected with a sample of Joker's diseased blood contracting the same disease. Joker also informs the Dark Knight that he has sent dozens of samples of his blood out to Gotham, forcing Batman to try and find a cure. After Batman stops Strange's plans, the Dark Knight confronts "Joker" but Talia al Ghul kills him and retrieves the cure only for the real Joker to appear and kill Talia with a gun from behind as Clayface reveals himself. After defeating Clayface, Joker attempts to make himself immortal with Ra's al Ghul's Lazarus Pit only for Batman to stop the Clown Prince of Crime. When Batman cures himself, Joker accidentally destroys the last of the cure when he stabs Batman, causing him to drop the vial. Batman says to Joker "Do you want to know something funny? Even after everything you've done, I would have saved you.". Joker laughs, coughs and responds "That actually is...pretty funny..." before succumbing to the disease and dying. Batman carries Joker's corpse out of the city, with Catwoman looking on, his thugs broken and Harley Quinn crying out in anguish, and lays him on the hood of a police car as Batman leaves silently. During the credits, he can be heard singing Only You (And You Alone) and also laughing through some of the song.
The Joker also appears in Batman: Arkham City Lockdown. His death later became the influence for Harley Quinn to pursue revenge upon Batman in the expansion Harley Quinn's Revenge. The Batman: Arkham City version of Joker was awarded the 2011 Spike Video Game Awards "Character of the Year" award.[24]
The Joker appears as the main antagonist in the 2013 prequel Batman: Arkham Origins, voiced by Troy Baker. This game focuses on the first meeting between Batman and Joker and their conflicting philosophies. Before the game's plot, Joker kidnaps Black Mask (Roman Sionis) and poses as the Crime Lord as he plans to send Gotham into anarchy. To rid himself of Batman, "Black Mask" hires eight assassins to kill Batman. When Batman goes after Sionis at Gotham Merchants Bank, Joker finally reveals himself. Later, Joker holds a meeting with the remaining assassins in the Gotham Royal Hotel, which Joker has taken over. During the meeting, he reveals himself to the assassins, then kills Electrocutioner when the assassin shows disrespect. When Batman arrives, he destroys a construction site just for fun, which infuriates Batman who is appalled by Joker's actions thus far. He attempts to pummel Joker, but is attacked by Bane who fights Batman on the veranda with Joker egging them on. When the GCPD arrive, Joker shoots at them and the fleeing Bane. Bane fires a rocket at the Joker which knocks him from the top of the hotel, but Batman manages to save him. Joker becomes troubled with Batman's choice to save him and becomes obsessed with the Dark Knight. Later at Blackgate, Joker is questioned by psychologist Harleen Quinzel and confesses the workings of his own troubled mind while Harleen begins to fall for Joker. During this time the Joker is actually playable, with a move set that includes vicious kicks and jabs, throwing cards and a lethal handshake via joy buzzer. In the end, Joker believes he and Batman were destined to meet each other. In the final confrontation, Batman fights Bane once more but Joker puts himself in an electric chair that will kill him unless Bane dies. Batman finds a loophole and defeats Bane. Later, Batman finds Joker who tries to get Batman to kill him; Batman refuses, merely beating Joker and he is taken away back to custody. An amused Joker shows enthusiasm at the possibilities of a future fighting Batman. During the credits, he can be heard singing Cold, Cold Heart while being returned to his cell at Blackgate. The Joker is playable in theBatman: Arkham Origins multiplayer mode. If a player controlling a Joker Elite gets to an entry gate as the Joker is demanding they let him in, the thug is replaced with the Joker. He has a lethal joybuzzer melee attack and two guns, The Ace of Spades (a large revolver) and The King of Hearts (a rapid-fire gun that shoots small explosives).
The Joker returns in Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, with Troy Baker reprising his role. Joker is among the three criminal kingpins that takeover Blackgate following Toyman being blown up. Using the warden's secret escape route, Joker broke into the Administration building and took him hostage. Deciding to make the place his "new winter, spring, summer and fall home", Joker proceeded to decorate the place in his own twisted style, while trapping the warden in booby-trapped room. Since the access codes were in his possession, Joker later came face to face with Batman again; he refused to simply handover the codes and left Batman to find the Warden. Joker also proceeded to pump his Joker gas into areas Batman would likely visit. He later faced Batman again, deciding he should defend his home from a "qualified burglar on private property". However, Batman renders him unconscious after a difficult fight. Confronted by guards later, Joker kills them and escapes while disguised as one of them.
The Batman: Arkham depiction of Joker has been widely praised. Critics have lauded the voice acting and the exploration of Joker and Batman's relationship.
DC Universe Online
Mark Hamill once again reprises his role for DC Universe Online. In the game's trailer, he is shown with Harley Quinn using a rocket launcher to initially attack The Flash. After an explosion set off by Black Adam kills both The Flash and Green Lantern, Joker wakes up and pushes Quinn's corpse aside (whether she protected him willingly or Joker used her as a shield is left up to debate) as he coughs from the smoke. He looks through his goggles to see Deathstroke hitting a suspendedBatman with a bent steel pole. Claiming the sole right to kill Batman, Joker promptly picks up the rocket launcher and fires it. Batman is shown later as having survived the attack, but Deathstroke is killed. Joker and Lex Luthor are the only survivors. In present Gotham City, he takes over a decrepit amusement park with Harley. In the hero campaign, the players help Batman in fighting Joker who attacks the Special Crimes Unit’s inaugural ball in the Regal hotel. The player defeat Joker who manages to escape. Joker later collaborates with T.O. Morrow in order to develop a new type of Joker Venom and pays Deathstroke to dispose of Riddler. Besides Harley, Joker is served by Joker Anarchists, Joker Hiding Schizos, Jokandroids, Joker Dawgs, Joker Derangers, Joker Lunatics, Joker Madcaps, Joker Stooges, Joker Wags, Joker Wisecrackers, J1N1 Robots, Lefty, Righty, and Fullhouse.
Joker can also be used in Legends PVP matches, a form of short player versus player matches where the players use the weapons, powers and abilities of iconic DC heroes or villains. The Joker is available for 70 Marks of Legends, and is the only character that can switch between two movement sets: acrobatics, in which he fights with a crowbar and using the One Handed fighting skill, or flying, in which he uses dual pistols to fight. Joker, as Batman, can be used with two skins: his normal appearance and Arkham Joker, dressed with a torn asylum immate uniform and a slightly grittier look. If a player using Joker defeats an enemy player using Robin while using the crowbar, the player will get a feat, as he or she has "recreated" Jason Todd´s murder at the hands of the Joker.
Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes
The Joker returned in Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, with Christopher Corey Smith taking over the role from Steven Blum.
Injustice: Gods Among Us
The Joker appears as a playable character in the DC fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us, with Richard Epcar reprising his role from Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. In an alternate universe, Joker tricked Superman into destroying Metropolis with a nuclear weapon, killing the residents, including Lois Lane (pregnant with Superman's child). Superman killed Joker in retaliation, losing moral compass and becoming a tyrant. In the normal universe, Joker was fighting Batman when they were accidentally recruited along with the heroes to stop Superman's Regime; Joker allies with Harley Quinn's heroic counterpart and her Joker clan to defeat Superman's alternate version, although an attempt at killing her after she was defeated by Lex Luthor's heroic counterpart as well as his being beaten by Luthor had her giving up on him, as well as being forced back to his dimension. Joker also appears in two different endings for the Classic Battle mode. In his own ending, although he failed to retain control of the Joker Clan in the Regime Universe, Joker nonetheless became convinced that a similar cult could be formed at his own universe, and was implied to have succeeded by causing enough terrorist attacks to force the people to make him ruler and create a dystopia under his rule. During other playable modes, Joker many alternate outfits: his Batman: Arkham City design as well the tropical costume and his Red Hood outfit in Batman: The Killing Joke.
Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham
The Joker appears as a playable character in Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, with Christopher Corey Smith reprising his role. He joins Lex Luthor's Legion of Doom, but then helps fight Brainiac. He temporarily gets hit with violet energy, filling him with love. Joker gets sent to jail with Luthor and a miniature Brainiac at the end. His mocking of Brainiac soon turns into cowardice when he accidentally releases the alien villain from the bottle, as he and Luthor shiver in panic, Brainiac prepares to vengefully beat them up. In addition to his original default version, the character has several other incarnations (the 1960s Batman television series version, The Dark Knight incarnation and the Batman Beyond era version) as separate playable characters via downloadable content.
Infinite Crisis
The Joker will appear as a playable character in the multiplayer online battle arena game Infinite Crisis, voiced again by Richard Epcar.
